An unusual solid 9ct yellow gold Hovercraft SRN2 Charm, commemorating the first commercially operated Hovercraft.

The Westland/Saunders-Roe SR.N2 hovercraft first flew in 1961.

Weighing 27 tons and equipped to carry 48 passengers, only one was ever built. It was shown on the St Lawrence River in Canada in 1962 and in 1963 used as a ferry crossing on the Bristol Channel between Weston-super-Mare and Penarth.

Fitted later with deeper skirts to improve its performance in rough seas, it was used on the Solent between Eastney and Ryde in 1963/4.

This charm opens to show rows of seats, and is fully hallmarked for London 1963.  Unfortunately the hallmarks were stamped on top of the writing, but both they and the name are still perfectly readable, as our pictures show. In lovely condition, comes with a jump ring ready to attach to your bracelet.
